CHANGING THE BIBLE

Revelation 22

18.  I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book

19.  and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

Who would want to change the Bible?

Why would they want to change the Bible?

For example: How about the Humanists and others of like mind?

The Humanist Manifesto 1 and 2 of 1933 and 1973

Humanist Manifesto Doctrine 13:

Religious humanism maintains that all associations and institutions exist for the fulfillment of human life.

The intelligent evaluation, transformation, control, and direction of such associations and institutions with a view to the enhancement of human life is the purpose and program of humanism.

Certainly religious institutions, their ritualistic forms, ecclesiastical methods, and communal activities must be reconstituted as rapidly as experience allows, in order to function effectively in the modern world.

First notice that Humanism is a religion.   Notice the word 'control' in Doctrine thirteen. For clarification, we will rephrase sentences one and two. They said, "The control and direction of all associations is the purpose and program of humanism."

They said the institutions to be controlled and directed include religious institutions. Religious institutions include Christian Churches, public and private schools, universities, seminaries, etc.. Put your thinking cap on, do you think Humanists should be involved in the 'control and direction' of Christian Churches, schools and seminaries? Wouldn't that be like putting the fox in charge of the hen house? Or appointing the wolf to the job of shepherd of the sheepfold?

Reread the thirteenth doctrine of Humanism. Notice that Humanists use code words for Christianity and believe that they must 'reconstitute', 'reinterpret' and 'redefine' Christianity 'as rapidly as experience allows'. ("as fast as they can get away with it")

"Some humanists believe we should reinterprettraditional religions and reinvest them with meanings appropriate to the current situation. Suchredefinitions, however, often perpetuate old dependencies and escapisms; they easily become obscurantist, impeding the free use of the intellect. We need, instead, radically new human purposes and goals." Humanist Manifesto 2 (1973)

Jude 1:3-5

3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

4 For there are certain men (claiming humanist credentials) crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men(non-theists), turning (reinterpret, reinvest and reconstitute ) the grace of our God into lasciviousness, ('new morality') and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (No deity will save us; we must save ourselves.)

5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

In the Humanist Manifesto 2  Christianity is referred to as 'traditional dogmatic or authoritarian religions'. Humanists believe that Christian beliefs are 'myths, dependencies and escapisms'.

Here we find them saying, "humanists believe we should reinterpret traditional religions and reinvest them with meanings appropriate to the current situation."

In Manifesto I, Doctrine Thirteen it was said, "(religious institutions) must be reconstituted as rapidly as experience allows." As rapidly as experience allows means, "As fast as we can get away with it."

How is this Humanist reinterpreting, reinvestment and reconstituting of Christian Churches and institutions to be accomplished? The answer, in part, is in the preface where it is written. "Many within religious groups, believing in the future of humanism, now claim humanist credentials".

Here we have the ungodly feeling that it is their duty to infiltrate, reinterpret, reinvest and reconstitute Christianity. How would they do this? In plain English, the Bible tells us in Jude 1.

Below is a list of some of the many changes made since the King James Version was published along with comments. The Living Bible is dealt with separately.

Various Modern Translations

The Old King James Version

John 1:1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. (New World Translation)John 1:1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (KJV)

In the King James Jesus is God whereas in the other Bible he is just a god.

2 Samuel 21:19 Then there was another battle with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan son of Jaare-oregim, the Bethlehemite, killed Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. Revised Standard Version (RSV)

2 Samuel 21:19. And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.  (KJV)

Who killed Goliath, David or Elhanan?

2 Samuel 23:5 Is not my house like this with God? For he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. Will he not cause to prosper all my help and my desire? (RSV)

2 Samuel 23:5. Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.  (KJV)

Is "my house" with or not with God?Hosea 11:12. and Judah is unruly against God, even against the faithful Holy One.  (NIV)

Hosea 11:12.but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.  (KJV)

Which way is it? With or against?Genesis 3:15. I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. Douay

Genesis 3:15. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; itshall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. KJV

Protestants believe that 'his' is Jesus Christ. The Douay-Rheims translation is a Catholic Jesuit version. Here Mary (she -her) replaces Jesus (his)

Psalm 55:19. God shall hear, and bring them low, even he that has existed from eternity. Pause. For they suffer no reverse, and thereforethey have not feared God. (Septuagint)

Sir Lancelot Brenton Translation. Originally published by Samuel Bagster & Sons, Ltd., London 1851

Psalm 55:19. God who existed before the ages will hear and afflict them. For there is no redemption in them. They indeed do not fear God.(Septuagint)

Charles Thomson Translation. Secretary of the Continental Congress of the U.S.A. 1774 -1789

Psalm 55:19. God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God. KJV

For some of those we call 'the  wicked' there is no redemption. But perhaps they do not want you to know that.

KJV. "no changes" They will not change.

Should Christians Love The Wicked?

Matthew 5:44. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (RSV)

Matthew 5:44. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  (KJV)

RSV wants us to pray for our persecutors.

Half of the RSV verse has been deleted.

RSV - missingMatthew 18:11. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.  (KJV)Perhaps this verse is not important so THEY left it out. Perhaps they believe Jesus is not the only savior. Perhaps they believe we should save ourselves. Perhaps they believe we do not need Jesus?

"No deity will save us; we must save ourselves." Humanist Manifesto 2

Matthew 20:16. So the last will be first, and the first will be last." (RSV)Matthew 20:16. So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. Matthew 20:22.  "You don't know what you are asking." Jesus said unto them. "Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?" "We can." They answered.

23  Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father." (RSV)

Matthew 20:22. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

23. And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.  (KJV)

Baptism comments are deleted from the RSV.Matthew 25:13. Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. (RSV)

Matthew 25:13. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. (NIV)

Matthew 25:13. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hourwherein the Son of man cometh.

The day or hour of what? It is not in the RSV or NIV.

Matthew 24:36. No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (NIV)Matthew 24:36. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  (KJV)"Nor the Son" has been added to the NIV

Jesus said, "I and the Father are one". This addition makes Jesus a liar. Also, that Jesus does not know when he will return.

Mark 2:17. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." RSV

Mark 2:17. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.

Mark 2:17.  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentancePerhaps they believe there is no need for repentance so they just delete two words.Mark 6:11 If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them."Mark 6:11. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.Perhaps these words were deleted because they do not believe in a judgment.

Perhaps with San Francisco in mind, God has decided to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah?

Mark 10:21, ...and come, follow me. RSV

Mark 10:21, ...Then come, follow me. NIV

Mark 10:21, ...and come, follow me. ASV

Mark 10:21. ...and come, take up the cross, and follow me.  (KJV)"Take up the cross" deleted.

Perhaps since salvation is a free gift you need do nothing except watch TV.

When you become a Christian there is a change in life and a cross to bear.

Mark 10:24. Children, how hard is to enter into the kingdom of God! RSV)

Mark 10:24. How hard is it for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! (NIV)

Mark 10:24. ... Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!  (KJV)Which is it?

1. Hard for children to enter.
2. Hard for the rich to enter.
3. Hard for those who trust in riches to enter.

In 3 being rich is not the problem. Making an idol of money is the problem. Those who believe in the RSV (1) or NIV (2) might just be persuaded give all their money to the preacher.

Mark 13:14. But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains; RSVMark 13:14. But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:  (KJV)They don't like the prophecy of Daniel so they simply delete the reference.

How will you know when to flee if you don't understand Daniel?

Luke 2:14. "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased" RSVLuke 2:14. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  (KJV)One verse favors a few and the other all men. It is just a subtle change isn't it?Luke 4:4. And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'man shall not live by bread alone." RSV

Luke 4:4. Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone. NIV

Luke 4:4. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.  (KJV)Perhaps they don't think every word is important, so they just take out a few words here and a few there.2 Timothy 3:16. Every scripture inspired of God and is also profitable for teaching. RSV2 Timothy 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, ...  (KJV)Is it every or all? Is it just inspired scriptures that are profitable meaning that some scripture is not inspired? Is scripture for teaching or doctrine.

And who is going to tell you which scripture is inspired and which scripture you can safely ignore? The pastor of a 501c3 church perhaps?

A little change here and a little there.

Luke 9:55-56. But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village. (RSV)

Luke 9:55-56. But Jesus turned and rebuked them and they went on to another village. (NIV)

Luke 9:55-56. But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. But he turned and rebuked them. 56.  For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. (KJV)The other versions remove the rebuke. Perhaps a Humanist version of "Judge not"?Acts 28:28.  Let it be known to you then that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen."

29.

30. And he lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, (RSV)

Acts 28:28.  Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

29.  And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

30.  And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, (KJV)

Let's be one happy family. Verse 29 is controversy. In the RSV - gone. The Bible is divisive and that will not do with those waning a one world religion.

Does Revelation 22:19 apply here?

19.  and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

1 Corinthians 10:28. (But if some one says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then out of consideration for the man who informed you, and for conscience' sake -- (RSV)1 Corinthians 10:28.  But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof: (KJV)Who owns the Earth and therefore can tell us how to behave? KJV say Jesus owns the Earth.

Perhaps the RSV translators are playing Ms. Manners. Maybe they believe some one else owns the Earth -Satan?

Over time, verses showing Jesus' ownership of the Earth are systematically eliminated from the Bible.

Revelation 14:5  and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are spotless.  (RSV)

No lie is found in their mouths, they are blameless (NIV)

Revelation 14:5.  And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. KJV

Accountability before God is removed from NIV and RSV. Revelation 22:14. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. RSV

Revelation 22:14. Blessed are they that wash their robes, that they may have the right [to come] to the tree of life, and my enter in by the gates into the city. ASV

Revelation 22:14. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. NIV

Revelation 22:14. Blessed are theythat do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. KJVThe RSV, ASV and NIV have replaced God's commandments with a soap commercial.Luke 4:8. Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only NIV

Luke 4:8. And Jesus answered him, "It is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" RSV

Luke 4:8. And Jesus answering said to him: It is written: Thou shalt adore the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  DOUAY

Luke 4:8. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. KJVJesus rebuke of Satan is removed.Acts 13:42.And as they went out, they desired them, that on the next sabbath, they would speak unto them these words. DOUAY

Acts 13:42. As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next sabbath RSV

Acts 13:42. As Paul and Barnabaswere leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. NIV

Acts 13:42. And when the Jewswere gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. KJVWho left?

1. They. - Douay RSV
2. Paul and Barnabas - NIV
3. The Jews - KJV

Who wanted to meet the next Sabbath day?

1. They - Douay
2. The people. - RSV NIV
3. The Gentiles. - KJV

When did the Gentiles want to meet?

1. 1st day of the week, Sunday
 2. 7th day of the week, The Sabbath?

Acts 16:7.When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesuswould not allow them to. NIV

Acts 16:7.And when they had come opposite My'sia, they attempted to go into Bithyn'ia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them; RSV

Acts 16:7.And when they were come into Mysia, they attempted to go into Bythynia, and the Spirit of Jesussuffered them not. DOUAY

Acts 16:7. After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. KJVThis subtle change implies that the Spirit is in control of Jesus.

Demon possession teaches that a possessing spirit controls a person rather than a person controlling himself.

Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

John 8:52.  Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil.

Are these translators implying that Jesus "hath a devil"?

1 Corinthians 5:7. Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new paste, as you are unleavened. For Christ our pasch is sacrificed. DOUAY

1 Corinthians 5:7. Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed. RSV

1 Corinthians 5:7. Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. NIV

1 Corinthians 5:7. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: KJVWhat is missing?1 Peter 1:22. Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the hear NIV

1 Peter 1:22. Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truthfor a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from the heart. RSV

1 Peter 1:22. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truththrough the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: KJVThrough the Spirit has been deleted.

RSV and NIV translators see no need for the help of the Spirit. Perhaps they think you can obey the truth all by yourself?

This is the power of God denied.

2 Timothy 4:1. I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: DOUAY

2 Timothy 4:1. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: RSV

2 Timothy 4:1. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: NIV

2 Timothy 4:1. I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; KJVIt is just a little change.

At implies that Jesus will return. Atmeans that the judgment will be at his return rather than at some indefinite time in the future.

By might mean that the judgment took place when he came and died on the cross.

Hebrews 7:21. But this with an oath, by him that said unto him: The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever.) DOUAY

Hebrews 7:21. but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:  “The Lord has sworn  and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever.’ NIV

Hebrews 7:21. Those who formerly became priests took their office without an oath, but this one was addressed with an oath, "The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind, `Thou art a priest for ever.'" RSV

Hebrews 7:21. (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for everafter the order of Melchisedec:) KJVWhat is missing? Only a Levite could be a priest. Jesus was of the Tribe of Judah, therefore the reasoning is that he could not be a priest.

However there was a higher order of priests, the order of Melchisedec.

Perhaps Douay, NIV and RSV want to deny Jesus priesthood.

On the other hand, some churches and even the Masons claim to have priests 'after the order of Melchisedec.

Does deleting these words make their priests of a higher order than Jesus?

John 5:39. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,  NIV

John 5:39. You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me; RSV

John 5:39.  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. KJV

What is the difference? the NIV and RSV are observations whereas the KJV is a command.

Protestant reformers believed it was your Christian duty to search the scriptures. Catholics had priests to do it for them and tell them what the verse means.

The RSV and NIV versions are a step in the Catholic direction.

John 2:11. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him. RSV

John 2:11. What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of thesigns through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. NIV

John 2:11. This beginning ofmiracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. KJV

Jesus Miracles done away

The KJV uses the word miracles 32 times. The RSV 23 of these miracles have disappeared entirely. In the remaining verses the miracles have been weakened

Matthew 18:2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. NIV

Matthew 18:2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them,
[3] and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. RSV

Matthew 18:2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3. And said, Verily I say unto you,Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. KJV

Ephesians 3:9.  and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. NIV

Ephesians 3:9.  And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: KJVJesus Christ is removed in the RSV and NIV.Colossians 1:14. in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins RSV

Colossians 1:14. in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. NIV

Colossians 1:14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: KJVBlood atonement removed.2 Thessalonians 2:2. not to be quickly shaken in mind or excited, either by spirit or by word, or by letter purporting to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come RSV

2 Thessalonians 2:2. not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. NIV

2 Thessalonians 2:2. That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. KJVIs it past (already come) present (has come) or future (at hand)?Titus 2:13. awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, RSV

Titus 2:13.

Titus 2:13. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; KJVBy changing the adjective glorious to the noun glory removes the second coming.

It is the glory that comes rather than Jesus Christ.

Revelation 1:7. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, every one who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. RSV

Revelation 1:7. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. KJV

"Jesus is coming and boy is he mad."

Jesus coming in vengeance is changed to a feeling sorry for him.

Is it morn in penitent sorrow or morn in expectation of terrible vengeance?

Mark 7:19. because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? [This he said], making all meats clean. ASV

Mark 7:19. For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) NIV

Mark 7:19. since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) RSV

Mark 7:19. Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? KJVIn this verse words were added to the Bible so Christians could have bacon and eggs for breakfast and an Easter Ham dinner at church. Did Christ die on the cross to cleanse pigs of worms?

Luke 23:44-45.  And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. KJVWas the sun darkened or was there an eclipse? An eclipse only darkens a small area not the whole Earth.

The RSV and Moffat replace a miracle with an eclipse.

An eclipse does not last three hours.

1 Corinthians 7:5. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. ASV

John 9:4. We must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day; night comes, when no one can work. RSV

John 9:4. As long as it is day, wemust do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. NIV

John 9:4. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. KJV

Just one little word

In the KJV Jesus is the only one who can do this work.

The ASV, RSV and NIV say we all can do it.

2 Timothy 4:1. I charge [thee] in the sight of God, and of Christ Jesus, who shall judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: ASV

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; KJV

Just one little word again

It it 'at' or 'by'?

Perhaps it is just 'in view of'?

This little change changes the doctrine of Jesus return.

James 5:16.  Therefore confess yoursins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. RSV

James 5:16.  Therefore confess yoursins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. NIV

James 5:16.  Confess your faultsone to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. KJVThis change puts the Catholic confessional into the RSV and NIV.Hebrews 10:21. and since we have a great priest over the house of God, RSV

Hebrews 10:21. and since we have a great priest over the house of God, NIV

Hebrews 10:21. And having an high priest over the house of God; KJVThis expression 'great priest, exalts the priesthood, Jesus just happens to be the greatest of many.

"An high priest" is only one.

This change allows a priesthood.

Acts15:23. With them they sent the following letter: The apostles and elders, your brothers, To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:  NIV

Acts15:23. with the following letter: "The brethren, both the apostles and the elders, to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting RSV

Acts15:23. And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia: KJV

Church Government.
Separating the priesthood
from the laity.

KJV Apostles, elders and brethern

NIV & RSV Apostles, elders.

This little change established a priesthood (Apostles and Elders) separate from the brethren.

Revelation 13:8. and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain. RSVRevelation 13:8. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. KJV

Predestined losers?

In the KJV those who worship the beast are not named in the Lamb's book of life.

In the RSV names were written in the book of life BEFORE the foundation of the world.

1 Corinthians 15:4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scripture RSV ASV NIV1 Corinthians 15:4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: KJVIn the KJV Jesus did it himself. In other Bibles, he had help.

The RSV, ASV, NIV make Jesus somewhat less than God.

John 7:8-9.  Go to the feast yourselves; I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come." [9] So saying, he remained in Galilee RSVJohn 7:8-9. Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. 9.  When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. KJVJesus did go to the feast later. The RSV makes Jesus a liar.Isaiah 7:14. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. RSVIsaiah 7:14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold,a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. KJVHow could a young woman having a child be a sign? Any young woman could bear a child.Psalms 45:6. Your divine throne endures for ever and ever. Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity; RSVPsalms 45:6. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. KJVHebrews 1:8. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Changing the wording in the Psalm can be used to deny that Hebrews 1:8 is a quote.

Daniel 3:25. He answered, "But I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods. RSV

Daniel 3:25. He said, "Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods! ASV

Daniel 3:25. He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” NIV

Daniel 3:25. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. KJVIt is believed that Jesus is God in this verse. Therefore the RSV, NIV, and ASV  make Jesus somewhat less.Micah 5:2. But you, O Bethlehem Eph'rathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old,
from ancient days. RSVMicah 5:2. But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whosegoings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. KJVDoesn't saying that Christ has an origin make him a created being?

The RSV would have you believe that Jesus is just very old rather than eternal.

Matthew 1:25. but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called his name Jesus. RSV

Concerning Matthew 1:16 early editions of the RSV have a footnote stating that Joseph was the father of Jesus.

Joke

Jesus to Apostle: "Did you understand what I said?

Apostle: Yes but, then we read the footnotes in our study Bibles.

Matthew 1:25. And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstbornson: and he called his name JESUS. KJVThis removed the prophecy that Jesus would be born of a virgin.

Isaiah 7:14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

This change brings into question whether or not Jesus was Immanuel and that Jesus was a first born son.

Luke 2:33. And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; RSV

Luke 2:33. And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him. DOUAY

Luke 2:33. The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. NIV

Luke 2:33. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. KJVSo Jesus no longer has a miraculous birth. And Joseph is Jesus father.

Matthew 13:51. Have ye understood all these things? They say to him:Yes. Douay

Matthew 13:51. "Have you understood all this?" They said to him, "Yes. RSV

Matthew 13:51. “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.  “Yes,” they replied. NIV

Matthew 13:51. Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea,Lord. KJVJesus is no longer Lord.

In the NIV "Jesus is Lord" is removed many times.

Matthew 19:16-17.  And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?"

[17] And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments."

Matthew 19:16-17.  And, behold, one came and said unto him, GoodMaster, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17.  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. KJV

The master is made into a teacher.

In the KJV "Why callest me good is the same as calling Jesus God.

The RSV asks what is good rather than who is good. Goodness is not ascribed to the person.

The RSV "One there is who is good."does not identify Jesus the 'one' who is God.

Matthew 27:35. And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots; RSV

Matthew 27:35. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. NIV

Matthew 27:35. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. KJVWhy do modern translations do this? Is it to remove proof that Jesus fulfilled prophecy.Mark 15:3. And the chief priests accused him of many things. RSV

Mark 15:3. The chief priests accused him of many things. NIV

Mark 15:3. And the chief priests accused him of many things. ASV

Mark 15:3. And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

Mark 15:28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

This was removed from Mark 15:3 because it was a fulfillment of prophecy.

Likewise Mark 15:28 has been completely removed from the RSV

Luke 4:4. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

1 John 4:3. but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. RSV

1 John 4:3. and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, of which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already. NIV

1 John 4:3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. KJVPerhaps the NIV and RSV were written by those having the spirit if anti Christ as evidenced by their leaving this out.Matthew 6:13. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen. Doury

Matthew 6:13. And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. RSV

Matthew 6:13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. NIV

Matthew 6:13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. AmenJesus is not to be exalted.Matthew 27:34-36. There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 36 And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. NIV

Matthew 27:34. they offered him wine to drink, mingled with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots; 36 then they sat down and kept watch over him there RSV

Matthew 27:34-36. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots:that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36. And sitting down they watched him there; KJVAgain these antichrists do not want Jesus fulfilling prophecy thus proving he is the messiah so they delete these references.

Psalms 22:18. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

Luke 11:2. And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
[3] Give us each day our daily bread;
[4] and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive every one who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation." RSV

Luke 11:2. He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.
3.Give us each day our daily bread.
4. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation NIV

Luke 11:2. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3.  Give us day by day our daily bread.
4.  And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that isindebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.KJVIn the NIV and RSV you can pray to the Pope as father. "Our holy father who art in Rome ...." How about that? But the Pope is not in heaven is he?

The religious title father is not allowed.

Matthew 23:9. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Why delete "deliver us from evil"? Humm.

Notice the word is indebted not sin.

A debt is something owed. Sin is violation of law.

Verse 40 is Missing in RSVLuke 24:40. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet KJV Luke 24:51. While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.
[52] And they returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
[53] and were continually in the temple blessing God. RSVLuke 24:50.  And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51.  And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: KJVNo worship in the RSV.

Where was Jesus at this time?

In heaven. (Verse 51)

John 6:33. "For the bread of God isthat which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world." NIV

John 6:33. For the bread of God isthat which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world." RSV

John 6:33. For the bread of God ishe which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. KJVThat is a thing - bread. He is a person.

Jesus is systematically removed from modern translations.

John 6:47. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.RSVJohn 6:47. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. KJVBelieves what? That a statue is god? That Santa comes on Christmas? Again Jesus is removed from a verse.John 16:16. "A little while, and you will see me no more; again a little while, and you will see me." RSV

John 16:16. Jesus went on to say,“In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.” NIV

John 16:16. A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. KJVIn the RSV and NIV Jesus plays hide and seek. Or perhaps he is doing a magic trick.

John 16:23. In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name RSV

Give in my name.

John 16:23. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall askthe Father in my name, he will give it you. KJV

Ask in my name.

What is the difference? In the KJV the request is made in Jesus name.

In the RSV the Father gives in Jesus name but you do not need to ask in Jesus name.

Acts 2:30. Whereas therefore he was a prophet, and knew that God hath sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne. Douay

Acts 2:30. Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, RSV

Acts 2:30. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; KJV"according to the flesh" is out because these antichrists deny that Jesus came in the flesh.

1 John 4:2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Acts 8:36-38. And as they went along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What is to prevent my being baptized?"
37. (gone)
38. And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. RSV

Acts 8:36-38. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37. And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. KJV

In the RSV nothing keeps a person from being baptized.

In the KJV the person to be baptized does so because he believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Again. Jesus is systematically removed from modern translations.

Acts 9:29. He spoke also to the Gentiles, and disputed with the Greeks; but they sought to kill him Douay

Acts 9:29. He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him.

Acts 9:29. And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.Again. Jesus is systematically removed from modern translations.

Christmas, Xmas or Happy Holidays?

The movement to remove Christ, Christian symbols and The Ten Commandments from public places started long ago in the modern Bible translations.

Romans 14:10. Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God RSV

Romans 14:10. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. KJVJudgment seat of Christ renamed.

1 Corinthians 15:47. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. KJV 1 Timothy 3:16. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels,
preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. RSV

1 Timothy 3:16. Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:  Heappeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory. NIV

1 Timothy 3:16. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. KJV

What is the difference. You and I are manifested in the flesh as are all other he and she's. In the KJV it is God who is manifested. Do you see the difference?

1 Peter 4:14. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. NIV

1 Peter 4:14. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. KJV

If ye be reproached

In fact, if you are one of the millions throughout the ages killed because you are a Christian you end up saved in heaven.

Revelation 6:9-10.  And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

AVOIDING FIGHT IN RELATIONSHIP

When a disagreement becomes a bitter dispute over who's right and who's wrong, things are said that you can't take back. Harsh words spoken in anger are remembered long after, corroding the relationship. Frequent battles embitter the fighters. No matter who wins, both bear the scars.

Say Three Nice Things First...

Always try to appreciate more than you criticize. Still, something your partner does may drive you up your tree and you just have to say something about it. Pick your timing, making sure he or she isn't already stressed out about something else, then say three nice things before you criticize. It also helps if the criticism takes the form of a suggested alternative.

"You know, it's very loving of you to always make breakfast on Monday  morning, and you look so cute in that little peek- a-boo cook's apron, and I'm proud of how well you make your Mother's baked carrot omelette, but maybe we could just have scrambled eggs today -- or maybe even go out to brunch. How about it?" Sounds transparent, but it works. Like being flattered, where you don't believe the words, but are complimented by the fact that someone cares enough about you to try to flatter you.

Avoid Blame

One way to keep a minor problem from escalating into a fight is to avoid accusatory or threatening words like, "You never," "You always," "Why can't you," and "If you don't..." Starting a conversation or discussion this way definitely isn't romantic, and will probably start an argument.

Even if you have a good reason to be mad, don't say, "You made us late and now you'll have to call and tell the Smiths we're not going to be there on time." Instead, say, "Well, we'll have to let the Smiths know we're running late. Who should call?" If your partner made you both late, he or she knows it without you pointing a blaming finger. Avoiding the "you" word works like magic.

Always deflect the "blame" onto some other, preferably inanimate object. Instead of saying "You made a horrible mess in here with your makeup!" say, "There's so much makeup in here I have no place to set my razor down!" Instead of "You promised to take out the trash and you haven't done it!" say, "The trash is really piling up!" You'll be amazed at how far this small difference in words goes in making your partner want to correct the problem instead of getting defensive.

If anger flares, the best response is to "reflect" it. My article on "Mirroring" points out the power of being in agreement. This power even extends to heading off a fight. So get into agreement, even about your partner's anger.

Remember to shift into his or her "Inner Language", and if he or she is visual, say, "I can see why you're angry." If he or she is auditory, say, "I can hear how angry you are." If you have a feelings partner, say, "I can sense how upset you are."

By "reflecting," instead of getting angry back, you're not agreeing that your partner is right and you're wrong, you're simply not disputing his or her feelings. This limited agreement is generally enough to turn the dispute toward discussion rather than escalation.

If, however unlikely, it is you who is clearly in the wrong, an impending storm can often be averted by adroit "Self-Disclosure." Say you're a half-hour late (again), and your partner, doing a slow boil, starts up with "You know I like to be on time, and you're always late..."

Don't give excuses, and don't make promises. Jump right in with, "You know, it drives me crazy, too. I don't know how it happens. It seems that no matter how early I start, I always wind up late."

Then ask his or her advice. "What do you think I should do? Help me think of something. How do you manage to always be on time?"

Your partner, previously ready and willing to fight, may be skeptical and grumpy but will almost certainly calm down. With all disagreement over the problem suddenly gone, he or she is now involved with finding a solution

WHY DID GOD ALLOW SATAN AND THE DEMONS TO SIN

With both the angels and humanity, God chose to present a choice. While the Bible does not give many details regarding the rebellion of Satan and the fallen angels, it seems that Satan"probably the greatest of all the angels (Ezekiel 28:12-18)"in pride chose to rebel against God in order to seek to become his own god. Satan (Lucifer) did not want to worship or obey God; he wanted to be God (Isaiah 14:12-14). Revelation 12:4 is understood to be a figurative description of one third of the angels choosing to follow Satan in his rebellion, becoming the fallen angels"demons.

Unlike humanity, however, the choice the angels had to follow Satan or remain faithful to God was an eternal choice. The Bible presents no opportunity for the fallen angels to repent and be forgiven. Nor does the Bible indicate that it is possible for more of the angels to sin. The angels who remain faithful to God are described as the "elect angels" (1 Timothy 5:21). Satan and the fallen angels knew God in all His glory. For them to rebel, despite what they knew about God, was the utmost of evil. As a result, God does not give Satan and the other fallen angels the opportunity to repent. Further, the Bible gives us no reason to believe they would repent even if God gave them the chance (1 Peter 5:8). God gave Satan and the angels the same choice He gave Adam and Eve, to obey Him or not. The angels had a free-will choice to make; God did not force or encourage any of the angels to sin. Satan and the fallen angels sinned of their own free will and therefore are worthy of God's eternal wrath in the lake of fire.

Why did God give the angels this choice, when He knew what the results would be? God knew that one-third of the angels would rebel and therefore be cursed to the eternal fire. God also knew that Satan would further his rebellion by tempting humanity into sin. So, why did God allow it? The Bible does not explicitly give the answer to this question. The same can be asked of almost any evil action. Why does God allow it? Ultimately, it comes back to God's sovereignty over His creation. The Psalmist tells us, "As for God, His way is perfect" (Psalm 18:30). If God's ways are "perfect," then we can trust that whatever He does"and whatever He allows"is also perfect. So the perfect plan from our perfect God was to allow sin. Our minds are not God's mind, nor are our ways His ways, as He reminds us in Isaiah 55:8-9.

WHO/WHAT WERE THE NEPHILIM?

The Nephilim ("fallen ones, giants") were the offspring of sexual relationships between the sons of God and daughters of men in Genesis 6:1-4. There is much debate as to the identity of the "sons of God." It is our contention that the "sons of God" were fallen angels (demons) who mated with human females and/or possessed human males and then mated with human females. These unions resulted in offspring, the Nephilim, that were "heroes of old, men of renown" (Genesis 6:4).

Why would the demons do such a thing? The Bible does not specifically give us the answer. The demons are evil, twisted beings'so nothing they do should surprise us. As to a distinct motivation, the best speculation is that the demons were attempting to pollute the human blood line in order to prevent the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. God had promised that a Messiah would come from the line of Eve (Genesis 3:15) who would crush the head of the serpent, Satan. So, the demons were possibly attempting to prevent this by polluting the human bloodline, making it impossible for a sinless Messiah to one day be born. Again, this is not a specifically biblical answer, but it is plausible and not in contradiction to anything the Bible teaches.

What were the Nephilim? According to Hebraic and other legends (the Book of Enoch and other non-biblical writings), they were a race of giants and super-heroes who did acts of great evil. Their great size and power likely came from the mixture of demonic "DNA" with human genetics. All that the Bible directly says about them is that they were "heroes of old, men of renown" (Genesis 6:4). The Nephilim were not aliens, they were literal, physical beings produced from the union of the sons of God and daughters of men (Genesis 6:1-4).

What happened to the Nephilim? The Nephilim were one of the primary reasons for the great flood in Noah's time. Immediately after the Nephilim are mentioned, God's Word tells us this: "The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth"men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air"for I am grieved that I have made them"" (Genesis 6:5-7). So, God proceeded to flood the entire earth, killing everyone and everything (including the Nephilim) other than Noah and his family and the animals on the ark (Genesis 6:11-22).

Were there Nephilim after the flood? Genesis 6:4 tells us, "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days " and also afterward." It seems that the demons repeated their sin sometime after the flood as well. However, it likely took place to a much lesser extent than it did prior to the flood. When the Israelites spied out the land of Canaan, they reported back to Moses: "We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them" (Numbers 13:33). Now, this passage does not specifically say that the Nephilim were genuinely there, only that the spies thought they saw the Nephilim. It is more likely that the spies witnessed very large people in Canaan and mistakenly believed them to be the Nephilim. Or, it is possible that after the flood the demons again mated with human females, producing more Nephilim. Whatever the case, these "giants" were destroyed by the Israelites during their invasion of Canaan (Joshua 11:21-22) and later in their history (Deuteronomy 3:11; 1 Samuel 17).

What prevents the demons from producing more Nephilim today? It seems that God put an end to demons mating with humans by placing all the demons who committed such an act in the Abyss. Jude verse 6 tells us, "And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home"these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day." Obviously, not all of the demons are in "prison" today, so there must have been a group of demons who committed further grievous sin beyond the original fall. Presumably, the demons who mated with human females are the ones who are "bound with everlasting chains." This would prevent any more demons from attempting such an act.

WHO WERE THE SONS OF GOD AND DAUGHTERS OF MEN IN GENESIS 6 : 1-4

Genesis 6:1-4 refers to the sons of God and the daughters of men. There have been several suggestions as to who the sons of God were and why the children they had with daughters of men grew into a race of giants (that is what the word Nephilim seems to indicate).

The three primary views on the identity of the sons of God are 1) they were fallen angels, 2) they were powerful human rulers, or 3) they were godly descendants of Seth intermarrying with wicked descendants of Cain. Giving weight to the first theory is the fact that in the Old Testament the phrase "sons of God" always refers to angels (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7). A potential problem with this is in Matthew 22:30, which indicates that angels do not marry. The Bible gives us no reason to believe that angels have a gender or are able to reproduce. The other two views do not present this problem.

The weakness of views 2) and 3) is that ordinary human males marrying ordinary human females does not account for why the offspring were "giants" or "heroes of old, men of renown." Further, why would God decide to bring the flood on the earth (Genesis 6:5-7) when God had never forbade powerful human males or descendants of Seth to marry ordinary human females or descendants of Cain? The oncoming judgment of Genesis 6:5-7 is linked to what took place in Genesis 6:1-4. Only the obscene, perverse marriage of fallen angels with human females would seem to justify such a harsh judgment.

As previously noted, the weakness of the first view is that Matthew 22:30 declares, "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." However, the text does not say "angels are not able to marry." Rather, it indicates only that angels do not marry. Second, Matthew 22:30 is referring to the "angels in heaven." It is not referring to fallen angels, who do not care about God's created order and actively seek ways to disrupt God's plan. The fact that God's holy angels do not marry or engage in sexual relations does not mean the same is true of Satan and his demons.

View 1) is the most likely position. Yes, it is an interesting "contradiction" to say that angels are sexless and then to say that the "sons of God" were fallen angels who procreated with human females. However, while angels are spiritual beings (Hebrews 1:14), they can appear in human, physical form (Mark 16:5). The men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with the two angels who were with Lot (Genesis 19:1-5). It is plausible that angels are capable of taking on human form, even to the point of replicating human sexuality and possibly even reproduction. Why do the fallen angels not do this more often? It seems that God imprisoned the fallen angels who committed this evil sin, so that the other fallen angels would not do the same (as described in Jude 6). Earlier Hebrew interpreters and apocryphal and pseudopigraphal writings are unanimous in holding to the view that fallen angels are the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4. This by no means closes the debate. However, the view that Genesis 6:1-4 involves fallen angels mating with human females has a strong contextual, grammatical, and historical basis.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ANGELES?

Angels are personal spiritual beings who have intelligence, emotions, and will. This is true of both the good and evil angels (demons). Angels possess intelligence (Matthew 8:29; 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Peter 1:12), show emotion (Luke 2:13; James 2:19; Revelation 12:17), and exercise will (Luke 8:28-31; 2 Timothy 2:26; Jude 6). Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14) without true physical bodies. Although they do not have physical bodies, they are still personalities.

Because they are created beings, their knowledge is limited. This means they do not know all things as God does (Matthew 24:36). They do seem to have greater knowledge than humans, however, which may be due to three things. First, angels were created as an order of creatures higher than humans. Therefore, they innately possess greater knowledge. Second, angels study the Bible and the world more thoroughly than humans do and gain knowledge from it (James 2:19; Revelation 12:12). Third, angels gain knowledge through long observation of human activities. Unlike humans, angels do not have to study the past; they have experienced it. Therefore, they know how others have acted and reacted in situations and can predict with a greater degree of accuracy how we may act in similar circumstances.

Though they have wills, angels, like all creatures, are subject to the will of God. Good angels are sent by God to help believers (Hebrews 1:14). Here are some activities the Bible ascribes to angels:

They praise God (Psalm 148:1-2; Isaiah 6:3). They worship God (Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:8-13). They rejoice in what God does (Job 38:6-7). They serve God (Psalm 103:20; Revelation 22:9). They appear before God (Job 1:6; 2:1). They are instruments of God's judgments (Revelation 7:1; 8:2). They bring answers to prayer (Acts 12:5-10). They aid in winning people to Christ (Acts 8:26; 10:3). They observe Christian order, work, and suffering (1 Corinthians 4:9; 11:10; Ephesians 3:10; 1 Peter 1:12). They encourage in times of danger (Acts 27:23-24). They care for the righteous at the time of death (Luke 16:22).

Angels are an entirely different order of being than humans. Human beings do not become angels after they die. Angels will never become, and never were, human beings. God created the angels, just as He created humanity. The Bible nowhere states that angels are created in the image and likeness of God, as humans are (Genesis 1:26). Angels are spiritual beings that can, to a certain degree, take on physical form. Humans are primarily physical beings, but with a spiritual aspect. The greatest thing we can learn from the holy angels is their instant, unquestioning obedience to God's commands.

RESTORE A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP

One of the hardest things to go through in life is the breaking of a relationship with someone, especially if you were particularly close to that person and have known them for a long time. Once a relationship ends it can be very difficult to restore that relationship. The more intimate you are with someone, the deeper the pain goes when things go wrong. In this article we will discuss how to repair a relationship that has been broken. We will deal with relationships in general. In another article I will discuss how to repair a broken marriage. The good news is that relationships can be restored if everyone involved is willing to put the effort into the process of healing. It may take time, but the end result is worth the time and effort.

Obstacles to Healing

Before we can discuss the process of repairing a relationship, we need to consider what keeps restoration from happening in the first place.

1. Pride

I put this one first, because it the biggest and most common obstacle to the healing of relationships. I know the times I have been separated from a friend I struggled a lot with pride. When I came to the conclusion that either I was totally wrong or at least shared part of the blame, it was difficult to bring myself to accept responsibility. Pride keeps people apart. We know that if we humble ourselves and go to the other person and admit wrong doing, we will lose face- or so we think. I have learned that I lose face by not admitting my error. I save my reputation by swallowing my pride and taking steps to restoration with that person. There is no secret formula to overcoming pride in a broken relationship. We all struggle with it at some point. Simply, you must bite the bullet and go for it. For example, one of the keys to learning to swim is to just go head long into the water and go for it. Too, in a broken friendship, you have to just go for it, do or die.

2. Time

Time gets in the way of healing. What I mean is that the longer we wait, the harder it is to take the steps to restore that relationship. Paul, a first century leader in the church, wrote to the Christians in Ephesus to "...not let the sun go down while you are still angry,..." (Ephesians 4:26 ). That is a good rule to go by. That, in no way, means that you have to fix everything by sunset. It means simply to quickly move into the process of repairing the relationship. The sooner you begin the process of healing the better. Time has a way of desensitizing us, causing us to not see the need for that person like we do when the problem first occurs. Too, as time goes along we can allow bitterness to set in, which exaggerates the problem even more.

3. Wrong voices

We all listen to several voices on a daily basis. The voices can come from advice from people at work, a neighbor or the media. The voices can come from inside us. I am not referring to people who hear voices in an insane kind of way, but rather the voices that crowd our thoughts daily. We must use discernment, and not listen to the wrong advice, as that often will lead us to maintain the broken relationship. Obviously, some relationships are not healthy for us to keep, but more often than not we should listen to counsel that encourages us to restore those relationships.

4. Unwillingness to mend the relationship

One obstacle that is out of our control is the other person who is unwilling to make amends. That can create more pain for the person who wants badly to restore the friendship. I will write later in the article on how to deal with this, but the main thing is to be patient, and give them space while affirming your love for them.

Steps to Repairing the Relationship

1. Realization of Brokeness

I put this step first as I am surprised at how many people are oblivious to the broken relationships around them. Often, they do not see that they are a common denominator in a series of broken relationships. If you tend to have relationship problems with several people, take a look at yourself to see if you are the source of the problem.

2, Humility

Whether you are the source of the problem or not, humility is a must if the relationship is to be restored. If you are the whole reason for the problem or just a part of it, it takes great humility to admit wrong doing. The rewards, however, are much greater than the struggle to admit your error.

If you are not the source of the problem, you still must take steps to reconciliation. Do not wait on the other person. It will take humility on your part, especially if you were not the cause of the break with the other person.

3. Patience

Patience is necessary. The relationship did not end overnight, so it will not be repaired overnight. You need to give each other time and space to think things through, and to heal. Patience is especially necessary if the other person is not willing to reconcile. Don't push them as that will drive them further away. Affirm your love for them, respect their wishes, and allow them room to figure things out.

4. Talking openly

Talking openly about the problem(s) is a necessary step to healing. This will include a period of blaming, then heart searching, and finally finding a solution. Blaming is part of the process. We all do it. We blame each other for the problem. This is part of fighting through misunderstandings so that the truth can be found.

Next, we must move into a time of searching ourselves to see where we were wrong. It is extremely rare when only one person is at fault in a broken relationship. More often than not, both parties are guilty. We must search within ourselves to see where we went wrong without justifying ourselves. We must be completely open and honest at this point if wholeness is to be achieved.

Finally, we must move into a serious discussion to find the solution. Phrases such as 'I'm sorry' and other such phrases are not helpful. Genuine seeking of forgiveness and a desire to solve the issues at hand are what bring healing.

These steps of talking may seem simple, but when you combine the complexity of two humans into the equation it can get messy. Keep moving ahead. Don't let yourself get side tracked by non-issues. Hold on to hope all the way to the end.

5. Forgiveness

Forgiveness is so necessary to keep a relationship alive, whether forgiveness is necessary for little or big problems. We must not let bitterness take root, as it will destroy us. Forgiving the other person will be easier if we remember our constant need of forgiveness. We tend not to forgive when we think of ourselves as being better than we really are. We all make mistakes, and should forgive as we want to be forgiven. Be generous in your forgiveness.

At this point many may wonder what true forgiveness is. To forgive is not to forget, as that is impossible. Once something is planted in your mind, it is there to stay. You can choose not to dwell on a certain thought, but you can't eliminate what is recorded. For example, when you delete something from your computer, it is still there. It can be found on your hard drive, but it isn't at the forefront of your computer's memory. To truly forgive someone is to move beyond the problem, and to move toward reconciliation with that person. I am a follower of Christ. One of the things He taught was that we are in a broken relationship with the Heavenly Father, but He, through Christ, moved beyond that and has moved toward reconciliation with us. He has made the first move, and now we must take the next step by moving toward Him by faith in Christ. I use that as an illustration of how to forgive. We must move beyond the problem toward the other person. Then they must move toward us to reconcile. Forgiveness then happens, and the relationship is made whole again.

6. Practice the Solution

In a previous step we talked about finding a solution. That is good, as long as we put the solution into practice. For instance, if one of the problems is verbal abuse, then the solution is to use words that build up the other person. That is great, as long as you stop using abusive language and begin to use words that build up. All solutions to problems are only effective if you put them into practice.

Repairing a broken relationship can be very difficult, especially if problems have gone unchecked. However, there is always hope of reconciliation. As time goes along and problems grow it becomes more difficult, but it is still possible to repair the problems if both parties are willing to take the necessary steps. Never give up hope. Even if the other person is unwilling you must do your part to reconcile without harrassing them. You always want to give them the space they need, while affirming your love for them. Once the relationship is made whole again, the reward will far outweigh the effort.

WHA IS THE PLAN OF SALVATION / WAY OF SALVATION

Are you hungry? Not physically hungry, but do you have a hunger for something more in life? Is there something deep inside of you that never seems to be satisfied? If so, Jesus is the way! Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty" (John 6:35).

Are you confused? Can you never seem to find a path or purpose in life? Does it seem like someone has turned out the lights and you cannot find the switch? If so, Jesus is the way! Jesus proclaimed, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).

Do you ever feel like you are locked out of life? Have you tried so many doors, only to find that what is behind them is empty and meaningless? Are you looking for an entrance into a fulfilling life? If so, Jesus is the way! Jesus declared, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture" (John 10:9).

Do other people always let you down? Have your relationships been shallow and empty? Does it seem like everyone is trying to take advantage of you? If so, Jesus is the way! Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me" (John 10:11, 14).

Do you wonder what happens after this life? Are you tired of living your life for things that only rot or rust? Do you sometimes doubt whether life has any meaning? Do you want to live after you die? If so, Jesus is the way! Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die" (John 11:25-26).

What is the way? What is the truth? What is the life? Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).

The hunger that you feel is a spiritual hunger, and can only be filled by Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can lift the darkness. Jesus is the door to a satisfying life. Jesus is the friend and shepherd that you have been looking for. Jesus is the life"in this world and the next. Jesus is the way of salvation!

The reason you feel hungry, the reason you seem to be lost in darkness, the reason you cannot find meaning in life, is that you are separated from God. The Bible tells us that we have all sinned, and are therefore separated from God (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23). The void you feel in your heart is God missing from your life. We were created to have a relationship with God. Because of our sin, we are separated from that relationship. Even worse, our sin will cause us to be separated from God for all of eternity, in this life and the next (Romans 6:23; John 3:36).

How can this problem be solved? Jesus is the way! Jesus took our sin upon Himself (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died in our place (Romans 5:8), taking the punishment that we deserve. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death (Romans 6:4-5). Why did He do it? Jesus answered that question Himself: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Jesus died so that we could live. If we place our faith in Jesus, trusting His death as the payment for our sins, all of our sins are forgiven and washed away. We will then have our spiritual hunger satisfied. The lights will be turned on. We will have access to a fulfilling life. We will know our true best friend and good shepherd. We will know that we will have life after we die"a resurrected life in heaven for eternity with Jesus!

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

IS SALVATION BY FAITH ALONE, OR BY FAITH PLUS WORK?

This is perhaps the most important question in all of Christian theology. This question is the cause of the Reformation, the split between the Protestant churches and Catholic Church. This question is a key difference between biblical Christianity and most of the "Christian" cults. Is salvation by faith alone, or by faith plus works? Am I saved just by believing in Jesus, or do I have to believe in Jesus and do certain things?

The question of faith alone or faith plus works is made difficult by some hard-to-reconcile Bible passages. Compare Romans 3:28, 5:1 and Galatians 3:24 with James 2:24. Some see a difference between Paul (salvation is by faith alone) and James (salvation is by faith plus works). Paul dogmatically says that justification is by faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), while James appears to be saying that justification is by faith plus works. This apparent problem is answered by examining what exactly James is talking about. James is refuting the belief that a person can have faith without producing any good works (James 2:17-18). James is emphasizing the point that genuine faith in Christ will produce a changed life and good works (James 2:20-26). James is not saying that justification is by faith plus works, but rather that a person who is truly justified by faith will have good works in his/her life. If a person claims to be a believer, but has no good works in his/her life, then he/she likely does not have genuine faith in Christ (James 2:14, 17, 20, 26).

Paul says the same thing in his writings. The good fruit believers should have in their lives is listed in Galatians 5:22-23. Immediately after telling us that we are saved by faith, not works (Ephesians 2:8-9), Paul informs us that we were created to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Paul expects just as much of a changed life as James does: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). James and Paul do not disagree in their teaching regarding salvation. They approach the same subject from different perspectives. Paul simply emphasized that justification is by faith alone while James put emphasis on the fact that genuine faith in Christ produces good works.
